The Department of CHEMICAL ENGINEERING was started in the year 1995 to inculcate the knowledge in chemical engineering area to the students. The department is gifted with a dedicated team of experienced faculty members and a well equipped laboratory.
The department is proud of producing consistently very good results in the University examinations. Recently our students bagged two gold medals in 2008 Anna University examination. The department has guided a lot of students in pursuing higher studies in India and abroad in fields such as process engineering, biotechnology, environmental engineering, petroleum and refineries, nanotechnology etc. Most of our passed out students have got placed in various Chemical and allied industries and also even in software companies.
The department regularly organizes lectures by eminent personalities in the field of chemical engineering and hosts national level symposium and seminars, workshops etc. It also arranges for industrial visits, industrial training for students in reputed core industries located in and around TamilNadu.
Our department had enunciated a consultancy project with TamilNadu State Council for Science and Technology in the area namely ‘Decolonization of Industrial Effluents using Low cost Adsorbents’. Our students have secured first places in ISTE design awards at the National level for the design of parabolic solar still for Desalination of sea water – which acclaimed wide publicity in media and press.
Laboratory Details
The Department has well-established laboratories with latest and sophisticated equipments in all the laboratories. The Department has Mechanical Operations Lab, Fluid Mechanics Lab, Heat Transfer Lab, Mass transfer Lab, Chemical Reaction Engineering Lab and Process Control and Simulation Lab.
