The Department of Automobile Engineering was started during the academic year 1999-2000 with sanctioned intake of 60. At present the department is having required faculty members as per Anna university norms. Keeping in view of the demand for automobile engineers the department has a vision to enrich the knowledge of students and updated technology. We are providing an excellent exposure to well equipped laboratories &workshops. So The department is well equipped with modern equipments such as latest exhaust gas analyzer, a computerized wheel alignment tester etc.We have got a free demo car from Hyundai motors. The department has also got the components light & heavy vehicles. The department library is fully equipped with books related to latest automotive technologies.
We have conducted a national conference on telematics from 28th- 30th oct-2009.which is a milestone in the history of sriram engineering college sponsored by CSIR, DRDO and BSNL. A national safety week was conducted in colobration with police department for a week to create awareness to public.
The staff & students are encouraged to become members of various professional bodies such as SAE, MIE etc.

Laboratory Details
The Department has well-established laboratories with latest and sophisticated equipments in all the laboratories. The Department has Automotive Electrical and Electronics Lab, Automotive Engine Components Lab, Automotive Chassis Components Lab, Two and Three Wheelers Lab, Automotive Reconditioning Lab, Automotive Maintenance Lab, Automotive Fuels and Lubricants Lab and CAD Lab.
